        Child's painting of Avalokite?vara.

The Silk Road was a route not only for buying and selling goods, but just as importantly, for the transfer of ideas, knowledge, technologies, religions, cultures and art. In today’s globalising world, understanding the Silk Road can help us all understand our own histories, cultures, artistic and religious heritages and how they coexisted and mingled with others in the pre-modern age.

IDP is working together with teachers and students worldwide to make the Silk Road’s rich resources and IDP’s knowledge open to all.

IDP’s education pages offer a wealth of material for those who want to teach on or learn more about the Silk Road. It is not country or age specific, nor designed for any specific curriculum. It is intended to be adaptable for your own learning plan, whether formal or informal, as a teacher or student, of any age or culture.

Soon, you will be able to adapt the materials using ‘My IDP’ to create your own projects. As IDP gains more knowledge of curricula, we will provide guidelines to help show how the material can be used in different school systems worldwide. We welcome feedback and help.

These pages are split into four sections: study, teach, research and links. The study and teach pages contain links to resources on a variety of themes, with images, text, video and sound. The research page contain details of IDP’s research interests and projects, as well as links to research papers written by IDP and others.

Whether you have found these resources useful, or would like to see other resources online, or if you are a teacher and wish to collaborate with IDP on producing material for your own teaching, we would love to hear from you.
